Oh, shucks, lol, I didn't realize we were all getting the same thing - I guess the potential for the red core is still pretty neat, but I was thinking it was going to be kind of fun random stuff like the ICG Dripz World Coins (I bought a dozen of those, unopened for less than $10 each on eBay recently) So "over 300" of the 15,000 will have red cores, interesting. Boy NGC is making bank on these. Lol @jeffB - I think that's a safe bet on the pin holes to see red. Edit - I have already received notice that they've been shipped - maybe a fun Saturday!
So what about the distribution list? Everyone gets a Jamaican coin of which there'll be 300 "gold" hits. But my understanding is you will still get a chance to get something off the distribution list and there were some decent coins to be had.
What I find interesting is how huge this bulk submission must have been. VaultBox got their hands on 15000 of them and APMEX seems to have enough to have them on their website for the low low price of $39.99.
I have outside chores to attend to while the weather is still above freezing. I’ll tear this open this evening.
Your expected return would be higher on eBay, but it would be a lot more hassle. Ooooooooopen them...! You know you want to!
I'm not sure how this round will work out for PCGS, customer-sentiment-wise. It seems like getting a $150 coin for $400 still isn't quite as disappointing as getting a somewhere-under-$40-before-they-flooded-the-market coin for $99, and that's what the vast majority of buyers will receive. At one-in-300, there's a real possibility that none of us who've posted about this on CoinTalk will see a red core on this one. I sure hope that's not the way it works out, though.
I ended up not getting in on it but know someone who has a couple coming that won't post their results here. Saw someone has a redemption one on ebay already blacked out, for $14k obo. Somebody's selling packs for $150 with more than 10. It's a 2% chance of getting anything.
Well, I like coins with a story and only just recently bought an ASE that was recovered from the Trade Centers. Also have an ASE that was recovered from a river after hurricane Helene.... So I am not entirely disappointed with the coins I received.
