I previewed this a bit on another thread, but I picked up a bunch of older Italian coins on my recent LCS visit, some of which seem pretty rare. IDing these was a lot of fun as they were pretty much all new to me. In case you were not aware, Italy was a collection of smaller states until the 1860s so there were a lot of different coins circulating in different regions. First up, the best I can tell this is from the Venetian colonies of Dalmatia and Albania and dates from 1684-1691. This 1 soldo (I think is what it is) was made into jewelry unfortunately. When I saw it I wasn't sure if it was a coin or medal but it looked old so I took a chance. I don't have too much invested in this so I'm happy with it. 1738 Papal States 1 quattrino. Here's a fun one. 1740 Papal States grosso sede vacante (issued when the pope dies). This one seems pretty rare. There's only one currently on eBay. It's in better condition but it's listed for $600, so this might be the highlight of the trip. 1783 Modena 1 bolognino. I have to laugh at how they just run out of room for the word and finish it on the next line. It's like how my third-grader writes. 1791 Tuscany 1 soldo (3 quattrini). This was the subject of debate in another thread as I had a heck of a time positively identifying it. Krause says only 12,000 minted so it's another great find. 1797 Naples 5 tornesi. 1825 Piedmont-Sardinia 50 centesimi. Last but not least another good score. 1827 Tuscani 1/4 fiorino. The only one on eBay is listed for $480.
