I'm new to coin hunting so I can't verify with my own knowledge, seeking opinions, needing help identifying this, and advice on what to look for. Is this an error Piece? The inner circle matches the circumference perfectly with of course another penny. Its missing 20170214_104730.jpg some letters and other letter have beeen cut off. I can post more pics, thanks for Helping!

I snapped a shot using the negative feature, just for another view of it 20170214_111733.jpg

In my honest opinion. Looks damaged somehow. It took a hit from the edge of another Cent. Look at the word TRUST.. You can see that it was struck nkrmally but it sunk into the indentation. Not an error Cent.

OK thank you, is it pretty rare to find major error coins nowadays?

They can be found but yes it is rare. The US Mints have improved on production. Meaning, better equipment and stricter monitoring of the coins.
It is important to have knowledge of what are true errors and non errors. So I want to share this website with you -

If you plan to search for errors, then it would be a good idea to get a book devoted specifically to errors. Otherwise, every miniscule little nick and ding will appear to be an error to you.

Thanks for the link! I haven't really narrowed down what type of collecting I want to focus on, I have a few coins that have caught my attention and are in the cool jar. I am enjoying the searching, and I really like these forums here. It's very imformative

If you're really committed to finding error coins in circulation, you will find them. There's still plenty of them out there, even with the latest strikes. But, this is a great book to guide you through it.

The CPG is devoted primarily to varieties, not errors.

I got a lot of reading to do thank you everyone for the help I appreciate it all!!!
One more though if I may, I have several of these all 1971,but only one has "short" or "missing" a portion of hair. What causes this? The one behind has this odd detail 20170214_133437.jpg

I went searching for similar pics and can't find any. It's definitely not an accented hair half dollar

Quite often, grease will fill spaces in the die and when coins are struck through the grease, the detail is often faint or even sometimes missing.

It's pretty common, and not generally sought-after.

    Hope that helps
