I just got my first Morgan, an 1878-CC and I’m excited to move onto another. However, I want to take my time with this one and do plenty of research. I really like the idea of getting a CC in a PL or DMPL variety in MS with a better date. I’m thinking my budget will be about $1K. Having a look at pricing it looks like it’s possible that a1885-CC is in the cards, I might be a little low. Can anyone on here recommend a CC year that has a better date that meets my criteria? Less of a priority is a year that might have more valuable VAMs so I have a better chance at identifying them. Let me know if I’m overlooking anything.
Be very careful when purchasing Morgans and Peace dollars, especially Morgan CC. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is not! There are so many fakes on eBay and other online sites. Always be safe, and you will never be sorry!
That's an absolute fact. Normally you can tell just by the seller's profile, location, and price. But not always. There's some stuff out there that weighs the correct amount and has the right silver composition. "Gyna" has taken counterfeiting collectibles to another level, and even counterfeit slabs.
I also forgot to add, scammers are stealing legitimate seller's photos and posting them as their own. I know this because a certain seller group uses the same type of handwriting on their cardboard coin flips and also use a ink stamp for some of their information. Unless the seller has a proven track record, you can't believe the coin you think you are purchasing is the one you'll get.
