Is This Mercury Dime An Error Or Damage

    Hi is this 1941 Mercury dime a lamination error or just damage. Thank you to who might know I really appreciate it.

    It looks very much like a “strike through”. A piece of wire or similar got caught between the coin and the die during strike. If authentic it is considered a Mint error.

    At first glance, I thought scratch. Upon second glance and further consideration, it looks to be a prominent strikethrough, struck through wire, as Spark suggested.

    You can faintly see the designer's AW monogram inside the depression. Had that been a nasty scratch, that feature would likely have been obliterated. Yep. I think you've got a strikethrough there, and a dramatic one at that. Neat.

    That is a beautiful strike through coin. You should protect that coin and label it as a Ming Error.
