Didn't you see the following 2 posts with the websites? But it could of been intentional also! Edit* one of the webpages could not be found
Thanks. Cool info. This small number screams "INTENTIONAL" unless there's thousands out there in never opened rolls.
Or might there be a Mint employee or several leaking them out slowly one by one to Fred? Call it a "pension supplement". Yeah, pension supplement, that's the ticket!
Two mint employees were put on trial for smuggling out and selling errors several years ago. At that time it was decided that something like 13 of the mules were the result of this smuggling (The others had been released and found in circulation.) and that they were US Government property and should be returned. As far as I know the owner of them, Tommy Bolack, has not handed them over and the government has made no further steps to secure their return.
Yup. Magic coin. I'll trade you my two headed nickel for it. No, I won't. I can win coin flips with it! (there's always somebody worth cheating).
The machinist is still selling them on eBay. I bought one as a novelty coin. As was stated the real mule was struck on a Sacagawea blank, so both the quarter and Sacagawea side would have the golden color. Here's the one I bought:
You know that Tommy is the same guy who bought the "dime struck on a nail" of recent fame/infamy, right? But if they ever really DID manage to shut down the "Mint employee to Fred" and "ballistic bag to roll contractor employee to Fred" pipeline, Fred basically has to retire, right? Those 15 planchet capped die monstrosities ain't coming from opening a roll, you know.
Oh, if you appreciate cynicism, even if differently aimed, I'm your guy! After all, education is NOT about answering questions, but about questioning answers.
Can't promise you our targets will always align. Cynicism can be a fickle weapon. But show me someone not cynical about something important, and I'll show you a rube.
