Which you will get. It is just their coding you can't select red if its brown and expect that. And you are right copper can and does chance hence they all pulled the color guarantee. It doesn't have to be AT at all. If you live in the wrong area like the tropics high premium red copper is a bad idea.
YESSSSSSSSSS!!! The perfect ending for all involved. @Larry Pelf - If you are still reading this thread, I would consider this. Maybe Mark will give you a token $1k or $2k to use your coin for his next email tirade. Of course NGC doesn't have clean hands on mechanical errors. In the last five years, I have notified NGC of about a dozen PF coins in high grade MS holders. C'est la vie.
Without wading through 323 posts in this thread (to date) to find out, has PCGS made an official statement on this issue?
Classless is as classless does. I let slip the upthread comment about PCGS' classlessness. I consider it proven long ago. YMMV. Mine hasn't.
I bet the OP feels like a dummy for bragging. He could have just walked a show with it and taken 15-20k and had it off his hands. Now with the cert pulled he might get 1k for it by somebody who would look to flip it on Ebay and hope the collector doesn't do their home work because it is "pretty and cheap". PCGS's guarantee is almost worthless now days. Other than toning, mechanical errors, PVC, attribution, color it covers everything! Except grade as that will need a pricey review. With a worthless guarantee how are we really any better than the raw days? If there becomes a market of PCGS coins that are worthless because of non-covered stuff that are $$ disincentivised to turn in, collectors are just as likely to be burned buying a PCGS coin from a shady dealer as they are buying a raw coin from a shady dealer. Used to be the PCGS had your back, now they just limit liability and get into forum word battles with NGC. Lame
This may be a bit of a side note, but if memory serves I once read an article on how much a grading service (maybe PCGS?) spends (maybe monthly? or annually?) on taking care of problems and mistakes. Seems like it was quite a significant figure. Just curious, does anyone know what I am talking about? I thought maybe it was in Scott Traver's book, but I don't see it just right off.
Don't forget that anything more than 2 grades overgraded is now a mechanical error according to them... I agree with you.
I'm sure had this happened to almost anybody, they would be feeling depressed. Somebody in clinical ie major depression could suffer some real down swings after such a let down with the loss of value all the publicity both negative and positive on top of it. I would consider PCGS mistake cause for "Psychological Damages". Particularly disgusting are the PCGS fascists and goose-steppers like this one: "PCGS will be paying zero cash to the submitter of this coin... and that's the right result. Sure, they will pay shipping both way to get this error fixed, but the submitter should not profit off a mistake. "As mentioned here on the forum before, PCGS made a $100k+ mechanical error on a submission of mine several years ago... sure, I had dreams of a new condo at the lake for a few minutes, but ultimately PCGS got the coin back, fixed the mistake and gave me some free grading vouchers for the hassle. That is what will most likely happen if the current owner plays ball. "If he chooses not to play ball, he'll likely be banned from ever submitting to PCGS going forward and will be liable forever if he now chooses to sell this to an unknowing party as a proof... if someone else comes forward down the road claiming ownership and tries to make a claim under the guarantee, PCGS will be going right to this original submitter to make that compensation. "Glad to see PCGS take quick action on this, well done!" illini420 https://forums.collectors.com/discu...e-say-you-shouldnt-buy-from-great-southern/p5
Yah your opinion isn't based on much fact. It hasn't been proven to be not a proof, you might be able to say that it isn't the generally accepted proof die or that in an opinion it doesn't look like a proof but that isn't absolute evidence. If he sold it down the road as a penny in a proof 65 holder he wouldn't be liable for anything. If PCGS wants to call it a macanical error that doesn't mean that the seller can't sue for damages. If the seller sticks it in an auction doesn't mean PCGS can't pull it. The seller would be wise to remember the old adage that possession is 9th of the law and he is allowed to think PCGS got it right just as we are allowed to think PCGS got it wrong.
You're my new favorite poster. Great stuff! The black shirts work well as they cross the show floors to John Williams' "Darth Vader's Theme".
