    Year 8 coins are generally scarcer for Probus. Yours is nice.
    I have a couple of the same type.

    The eagle also occurs facing the other way.

    Hi All,

    upload_2025-11-2_23-48-11.png

    PROBUS (ca Apr 276 - ca Sep 282 CE)
    Year 08 (Aug/Sep 282 CE)
    Billon tetradrachm

    Obv: Probus head, laureate seen from the front facing right. Legend: AKMAΥΡΠΡOBOCCЄ. Dotted border.

    Rev: Eagle wings open facing right, holding wreath in beak. In left field: L; In right field: H. Dotted border.

    Refs: Emmett- 3982.08; Geissen-3158; DAttari-5559 var; Milne-4659; SNG Copenhagen-944; BMC-2438; Mionnet-Supplement 626; see Vogt I 218f;

    COMMENTS: Rare Year. Probus died in the Autumn of 282 AD about two months after the start of renal year 8.

    After the reign of Tacitus no further Greek Imperial coinage was issued except those from the mint of Alexandria, which continued its output of small billon coins for a further two decades. The billon tetradrachms of M Aurelius Probus were produced in vast quantities and are amongst the commonest of all ancient coins surviving.
