http://coins.cdbpdx.com/1866S_50c/ The link above shows another piece from this estate. I know it has been in the estate collection for at least 40 years, but it doesn't quite look right to me. Any comments? Thanks! CDB
Look closely at Liberty's dress, she's been tooled. Someone tried to make it look like she was a higher grade than she is. I think she is real, but I am anything but an expert on this series. Not a coin that I would care to have in my collection.
She is awfully mushy, you could be right now that I look again. Actually it's kind of funny........a tooled fake........go figure.
Something doesn't look right with the dentils on the reverse to me. I'm no expert on fakes, but thats always the first thing I look for on coins. Dentils are the hardest thing to fake on a coin, and those look weird to me. Guy~
Darn! I was hoping someone would say it looks real. The weirdest thing of all to me are the drapery folds directly above the right side of the top of the shield. I don't recall ever seeing anything like that on any other S.L. coin. At least the Fugio looked good. I'll most likely be posting more pics of the collection over the next week or so. About 50 pounds, mostly 90% silver pulled from circulation since the 1950's. CDB
