1982. The coin in the picture is a 1982 small date copper. It is still a common/error and not worth the grading fee.
Apologies for the date mistake. Guess I'm just not focused today. On a bronze planchet plus the mad? Seems like it should be worth a look to my admittedly rudimentary knowledge of transition/error coins.
Value? If I saw it at a flea market in a minor errors coin album I would pay $1.00 for it. Not worth submitting in my honest opinion. Small date on copper is nothing significant, It's one of the 7 known business strike varieties. See above
They made milions of them. You are right though the small dates are a little more coveted. There are only 2 small date Denver's.
It might be a little less common, but it is still common. If you look at the PCGS price guide, in MS63RD the 1982 small date zinc is $3 and the 1982 small date bronze is $6. Prices diverge a bit more in the higher grades, MS64RD $4 vs $22, MS65RD $10 vs $36. But you'll see a similar spread with the large date. The MAD on yours is interesting but in that condition bronze/zinc large/small date doesn't matter for Philly coins.
