I liked how the die cracks really popped on this one. As John said these come absolutely white. This one has the 2 carbon spots rev. Otherwise not much different than the day it was struck. I gave 350 for this one a couple of years ago.
Thats a beauty. I've got an 1884 CC GSA in my collection, I have not sent it anywhere for grading. My (this particular one) GSA has seen some wars, the holder is badly scratched. I tried to buff the holder out with wax with no success. I did get it for less than 300. I don't think the oversized holder adds any value because your preferred TPG can crack it out, grade it GSA and label it as such. If you have the documentation to keep with it, it's still a GSA in a more attractive and compact holder.
I have a soft spot for them. I was a poor kid collecting worn slick v-nickels with my lunch money….. My birthday one year my grandad got two of them from the original auction for me. I had reached coin collecting nirvana when he gave them to me….. Still have them.
Everyone is different, and that's what makes the world go around. The ones I really have no use for are the soft packs. I mean really, how are you supposed to deal with those other than stuff them in a box of miscellaneous junk?
