My opinion is that it's probably aluminium.

Looks as fake as something Carr would make. I guess that makes it worth a hundred dollars or so.

Just saw a carr medal with liberty's pretty face obscured by a bunch of writing. WTH?

    Probably just a typo.

The only conclusion I'm willing to draw is that it's been polished. The images are not taken with the coin and lens parallel, so perspective distortion ruins any chance at evaluation of authenticity. Over 5 million were minted. The issue is relatively available up to MS64 and 67's exist, so the potential for it to be Uncirculated is believable. The opening bid is about AU Details money for this one.

There is no evidence whatsoever for me to declare it a fake, but that same lack of evidence prevents concluding it's authentic.

I would certainly like to see it in hand, which isn't going to happen because it's warm here and not so much in NH.

    Good reason. :)

Either way, it's heavily polished (third image from the left, the "bluish" obverse is the best tell), and you wouldn't be happy with it anyway even if it were real.

Yeah, that was fun, now it's a Federal Offense. How the times have changed. I still have a few that did not get picked up and carried away.

I'm reasonably sure there are NO 1884 O half dollars. Am I missing something?

Ahhh. listing says 1884 but the coin says 1854.

You going to get hit with that new snow storm coming tomorrow? If so, be safe my friend.
Ever since 9/11 a lot of things have changed. Here in Mass. don't get caught within 20 feet of either side of the tracks, walking on the tracks, etc. unless you are boarding a train. I got lucky 2 years ago when I was walking the side of the tracks, picking up cast off parts. A local farmer took a picture of me doing it and called the local rail company and that's when I found out. They were nice, explained the offense and just warned me from doing it again. It wasn't about the parts, they actually thanked me for cleaning them up. Times have changed.

I guess I wasn't clear. The coin is in NH and I am in FL.

Around here, the new fad consists of idiots standing on the tracks and taking a picture of one of them with the train coming up from behind. Of course, the object is to get away in time.

Some people should be glad that breathing is an automatic function.

    Thanks, Tommy...

In the not too distant past I made the mistake of telling the wee ones what happens to coins placed on the tracks, and of course managed to create little monsters wanting every kind and type possible to be "smooshed". Guess I should count my blessings... :)
