1916 D Mercury dime, is it real?

    Greetings,
    Our LCD with very limited experience obtained 1 916D Merc but the mintmark looks like a w. Has any body seen a real 1916D that looks like aW?

    Are you talking about the obverse? If so, the "W" is the initial of the designer. The mint mark is on the reverse of the coin. However, pictures would help!

    Pictures would help by the mint mark is located on the reverse to the left of the base office torch.

    Yep... Sounds like there is some confusion with the designers initials. Never seen a 16-D that looked like a W.

    1916-D mintmarks.jpg A genuine 16 D mintmark should ook like one of these 4.
