At the end of 1943 when the U.S. mint decided to return to making 1¢ coins out of copper, they still had some zinc coated steel planchets left over. A decision was made to use them to mint a 2 Franc coin for Belgium, 25,000,000 of them as stated on Numista. I have not found any logistics / articles about this, so if any one has I would be interested in knowing more on this. I recently was fortunate to find one in uncirculated condition, and they are quite a simply coin.
