Does anyone think this is possibly a 16-D It's a 1916 and this is a reverse pic. Just purchased on the ebay, this might complete my whitman.
I'm going to have to say no. I dont see from the picture that you've provided that theres any trace of a "D" on the reverse of that coin.
Thanks DJCoins. Thats a picture of my Grandmothers Grandfather on my mothers side. In other words, my Great Great Grandfather, Apache Chief Naiche. Its a long story how he became part of the family.
I thought the same thing about a '16 Merc. So, I blew the $10 and sent it in to ANACS, now I have a 1916P slabbed FA-2.
There are 4 correct positions for the D on a genuine 16-d, but on all of them the top level of the D is level with, or higher then, the bottom edge of the lowest leaf. This is conclusively not even close.
Hope it was cheap. I take some chances with ebay auctions like this where the seller ignores the mint mark. My latest auction buy was for "A buffalo nickel" In the picture i saw it was a 1919. So i spent a couple bucks to take a chance that is was a 1919-D Sure as hell, when i got the coin in the mail, it WAS a 1919-D
I don't think it would be worth to much if it was a D though. Really worn bad. But doubtfull anyway. Too bad it would have been nice to have it be a D.
