Anybody here collect Redfields ? Would you go for one in the original holder (they seem overgraded) or look for one in a PCGS/NGC ?
400,000 examples is a bit large to imagine any useful added value just from the provenance, and the Paramount slabs have been getting cracked open in the thousands for years. To my mind, those slabs are the only thing justifying added value these days, and there is a subset of collectors who will pay that added value. So, if I were going to buy one - I'm not - I'd be looking for a Paramount slab.
Is that coin an 1882? I know that they have about 3-5 VAM's involving this type of mint mark. If it's an 1882 it might be one of those.
