It happens to be from my birthyear. Only because it has 1.3 ounces of bullion, the recent spike in spot gold to over $4,000/oz just made this my most valuable coin, even though I have dozens that are more historical. (I paid $3,700 for this last year. Its melt value is $5,468.88 as I type this. What a ride, huh?)
The design is from Peru's silver Un Sol (37mm) that goes back to 1863 or 64. I love those coins. They're die crack magnets.
I somehow can't think of gold coins as being coins at all. I've always bought only the most interesting coins but I think of them as "gold" not "coins". It is a strange new world.
