My grandson 10 is into coins like me. I was thinking of getting him a Garrett Ace 250 metal detector (about $212.) I know that's a lot of money, but he is my only grandson(the love of my life). I'm looking for some good advise here. Thanks for any comment's, help, suggestions.

Since it's your grandson, you've been through the wash/rinse cycle of life, so I won't bore you!!!

I dunno. My son knows the following lines by heart: "Let's get the moderately priced one. If you actually end up using it, we'll shoot for the moon."

Without going into all the personal details, I am basically willing to get them going and if they take it and run with it and really become interested, price is no longer an issue.

For my son, it's been those computerized drawing pads (which can cost $1000's) and guitars. So far, he started with a $100 guitar and now has a $800 one and we're working on the drawing pad.

Maybe he's got my number????? :)

the Garret 250 is a good detector...
however, im not sure I would recommend it for a 10 year old.

I have the Garrett 250 and I love it.
I've read, several places, it's the best detector for the money.

    Good Luck !

The TA-250 is one sweet beginner metal detector. He'll be digging holes all over your yard now, LOL... I love it. :)

Dang, you are a cool grandpa. My stepgrandpa wants nothing to do with me, and last christmas gave me a pack of underwear. My cool grandpa (the coin collector) died when i was 8.

That's a bummer. I tried to get my son interested in coins and the only interest he showed was to spend a few of my 1999 proof SBA's and a couple rolls of my 2000 sac's US-Mint / Wal-Mart rolls and more that I will nerver know.:(

The ACE 250 is (in most MDers opinions) the best value entry level detector you can get. It's loaded with features you won't find in anything else in that price range. If you get it from Kellyco you also get a bunch of free accessories with it. Here are some reviews on it if you haven't seen this already: http://metaldetectorreviews.net/detectors/105-1-garrettace250.html

Don't worry dude, I never knew either of my grandfathers. The one didn't want anything to do with his grand kids either. His loss.
