I see them. Thanks! Yes, Paddy, they are all mint state. They received their patina by being stored in old 2X2 flips (from 60's/70's) in our attic for many, many years. Here in TN, the weather is hot and humid in the summer and cold and wet in the winter. My dad's coin collection endured many cycles of this weather pattern over the years. I remember looking at these in the late 1970's, and I remember thinking how cool it was that these coins were from the 1800's yet they looked "brand new". I think most, if not all of them were WHITE back then. I can't be sure, but that's what I remember thinking.
You may want to take your time and go to vam world and work through all the vams.....to see what you have there. Since given to you by your family no matter they are priceless ,again nice coins
That's actually my long term plan. First, I want to photograph each one and catalog the images. They're in Coin World slabs and organized in NGC storage boxes. I have 6 full boxes, which also include Peace dollars. It will be a long process, but I'm just going to take my time and enjoy it. Maybe I'll discover that I have a really cool VAM somewhere in there.
No doubt were rolled for the clubs to make change with. One needs to remember that when the clubs were open it was a cash bar. Credit cards were around but, only the rich and famous had them. The middle class still were using metal charge a plates. That were issued from stores with a revolving charge account. Playboy logo was on everything in the clubs. And the bunnies had a strick dress code as well A set of Rules If Broken Got You A Swift Kick Right in Your Cotton Tail Out The door.
1963 Proof Set (PCGS PR66, PR66, PR66, PR67, PR67RB). I put this digital set together from TrueView photos. I JUST got the 1963 Washington Quarter graded at PR66 -- it was my last hole. I do have an alternate Roosie, but it's reverse toned.
I picked this up to go along with my love token set I am putting together. I know this isn't really a love token but thought it was neat, the coin was only made for three years, the bezel is sterling, and the price was right. Google told me the translation is basically bird king, can anybody verify this?
Just won this, 9 different reverse designs, ( 1/2oz. Silver each. ) ( sellers pics. ) I know that these should be in world coin forum, but I had already started when I realized that this was US forum. My bad. Will show better pics when I receive the set, and will put them in the correct forum.
Well I was off today....and told myself I must behave and not go to the LCS. Well you know the two voices one sez no! The other sez go ahead.....well I'm glad I listen to the right voice. I got these for $4 ea. And have the other 4 set aside for the same amount. I had purchased the #1 Washington from the mint. Forgotten about the sets and after the 8th. The mint discontinued the sets. Now $4 for the proof isn't bad but the BEP did the prints on these and they are fantastic ! And the retails are more than triple on these the Madison is like $60,the others $20 and up!
What is cool is that I'm really not a modern collector ! However here's the scoop on these sets The first of course was the Washington set it sold around 16443, next was Adams and it sold 9284 sets,Jefferson set sold 8803,Madison 7701. Now with the numbers declining Monroe, J.Q.Adams ,and Van Buren only 3000! The mint stopped the series . With the last 3 in the 50-80$ price range I couldn't pass up a proof dollar coin the very well done print, and nice presentation folder @ $4 each.... The proof coins are worth more then that.
Decided to check out my LCS for the first time today. The positive was they were all real helpful answering my beginner questions. The negative was I took a little offense at their offer for one of my coins. I know they have overhead and a business to run (I run small business myself I completely get it more than the average person - it's hard) but he did it in a shady manner by printing a completed auction result which was an outlier (which I know cause I've been following it and they've been selling for more than double the one he printed). Anyways I still really appreciated their patience and answering my questions so I felt obligated to grab something and since I want to tackle the Morgan CC set and this was priced fairly I picked it up. 1882 CC:
A combination of the content (I'm from MO), heraldic eagle, patina, size (half dollar-ish) and having a TrueView is what got me to pull the trigger on this. Couldn't be happier!
It's an old coin/shooting medal, KKS means small caliber shooting and Schonungen is a small town in northern Bavaria. VogelKönig could be a name, a nickname, or literally translated as "king of the birds" whatever that means.
