Stopped by the pawn shop at lunch today, after missing it last week.

A lot of the silver I'd seen two weeks ago was gone; I wonder if they managed to sell it at the 55x-60x FV they were asking.

This time, they had a bag of ten generic silver one-ounce bars, asking price I think something like a thousand bucks. They also had a pill bottle containing FIFTY Peace dollars. Yep, I checked every one of them; 49 1922s, and one 1923. One or two BU, five or ten culls, the rest in various stages of wear. They wanted $2800 for the batch, I believe. I passed.

They did have one bag of ten Kennedy halves for $149. All 40%.

$56 for a Peace dollar? That’s about 50% over melt. I didn’t read where you dropped the hammer.

On the visit two weeks ago, most of the stuff was closer to double melt. In the past they've done a 100% markup (buy price is half the sell price), so I was speculating on whether they might actually make me a reasonable offer on some of my junk. I put the chances low enough that I'm not going to bother trying it.

$2800.00 for fifty silver dollars? That's better than fifty bucks each (I think).... At that price they better all be BU!

And/or they'd better be better dates than 1922. Even if there'd been a 1921 or a 1928 tucked in there, I doubt it would have been a good deal. Now, if there had been an MS 1934-S or a couple of other condition rarities, I might have tried negotiating...

This is the same place that had a bunch of worn Morgans with stickers on the back pricing them about 50% over melt, with one of them being an 1895-O. So I figure it's still worth my while to check in periodically.

It's ridiculous. Of course on fleaBay you have to factor in the seller gets fleeced for 13% right off the top.
