This one is not as good as @stevex6 's coin, but it was too good to pass up. Roman Republican Anonymous As. 169-158 B.C. AE, Uncial standard, Rome mint. Obv - Laureate head of Janus; above, I Rev - Prow of galley right; above, she-wolf standing right, head left, suckling the twins Romulus and Remus; to right I; in ex [ROMA] Scarce. Ex RBW collection (not in previous sales). The dealer said aVF. I would probably vote F, but plenty nice enough for my collection. It looks like the coin circulated a long time and a lot of details are missing. It is well centered and has a nice patina. The casting seam is visable and a piece is missing where I assume the casting sprew was broken off. 25.26 g, 32.4 mm, 1 h Cr 183/1 BMCRR Rome 514 - 516 Syd 297 Sear 694 NMW 216 (Nat Museum of Warsaw, one of my early RR books) RBW 775 This moneyer issued bronze coins As to Uncia, but no silver.
Nice pickup! Not only did this moneyer not mint silver but this series was minted during a period of 15 years or so where no silver was minted. The bronzes of this period almost always come heavily circulated so your example is pretty nice for the period.
rrdenarius => congrats on scoring yourself a cool OP-AE-RR-As Oh, and thanks for the coin praise (yes, I love this coin as well)
NIIIIiiice @rrdenarius ... great As! You know that I love the Republic issues! I have a Rupublic SEXTANS with the She-Wolf: RR Anon AE Sextans 217-215 BCE She-Wolf Twins Eagle Syd 95 Cr 39-3 S 609 Pre-denarius coinage
