US Penny 1982 D copper big or small date?

Hello all and thanks for looking! Weighs 3.16g - so it’s copper and I think it’s big date right experts? Is the pitting natural or just wear and tear? Thanks!

It's a normal Large Date. One of 7 different business strike varieties minted in 1982.

The surface is damaged.

Yes, large date. Here's my quick trick - if the bottom of the 2 can't fit between the 2 and the rim, it's the large date. One glance and you can ID your coin. Another rule of thumb for me - no one is ever going to find another 1982-D small date copper. If it happens I'll gladly eat my words, but I'm more likely to get struck by lightning, attacked by a great white and hit by a meteor on the same day.

 

That happened to my cousin Ernie a while back - he was also abducted by aliens, but we don't talk about that anymore.

 

The small date has a fancy 2. The large date has a sloppy 2.
The small date has a snowman 8 where the top is very small.
