Visited the museum and couldn’t resist the penny press machine … especially, we were with friends who had their 4 year old boy along. Did one for me, and the boy and I did one for him. There were several designs available, all related to the museum. I chose Newton’s telescope. This machine was more automated than the one in Salisbury Cathedral. It supplied its own pennies and required a Credit Card for payment. It also “struck” both sides … actually a rotary press. You still must use your muscles to do the pressing. Had to laugh when I saw the Visa charge. Company that owns the machines is named PennyMangle. Mike
Cool machine! I have a link somewhere that list all the active machines in the U.S and overseas. I'll have to do some research.... Here is one from a trolley museum in Maine....
Here it is. Have a great time! PennyCollector.com - The official website for elongated pennies, penny books and penny machines
This for the ones in London. PennyCollector.com - The official website for elongated pennies, penny books and penny machines
That site is amazing. They even had this one at Niagara Cave, seems pretty obscure. Got a couple there this summer and don't know where I put them... http://locations.pennycollector.com/Details.aspx?location=3076
That’s a newer machine I believe. I have a large collection of elongated or rolled cents but I don’t have those. I wouldn’t mind a complete set.
Thanks for sharing! Cool. If you're still in London I recommend the Royal Observatory in Greenwich on the prime meridian.
I like the Penny Press Machines. When I'm on vacation somewhere I like to get a few as souvenirs. I have pennies from the Dakotas, Minnesota, Yellowstone, Vegas. and Hawaii. This is what I have: This
I love squished penny's (cents). Anytime I'm up on the 'thruway' or down on the 'turnpike' I love visiting the rest areas that have these machines.
