I was going through some coins I purchased from junk bins recently and I came across this 1873 B Germany 1 pfennig. I know that 1873 in general is a better date for German coins, but I couldn't believe what the price guide says. Jackpot!
That is incredible that you found the VERY scarce coin in a junk bin. Congrats! These little German Empire 1 and 2 Pfennig coins are really interesting. I have a couple myself.
They melt down copper? Extract the other metals, and get $4.80 a pound? Sounds like a waste of time and money.
That’s the find that makes the treasure hunt through the bins worth it. Plus it’s just fun to search these bins. Reminds me of the fun of collecting. Like coin roll hunting used to be.
Probably 90% of the time when I find a good cherry pick in a world coins bin it's a small denomination coin. The big ones catch everyone's attention and the little ones are overlooked and tend to fall to the bottom.
I pulled a nice 1885 pfennig out of the junk bin (.50 cents), mine appears to be a G, and a 1938 silver Philippines 10 centavos 50 or 75 cents. https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide...-1-1873-common-date-cuid-1173581-duid-1313589
