Lol, @Diane Harriet, yes I can believe coin collecting can be hazardous. I have a reputation as being able to injure myself regardless of WHATEVER I do. My family is fond of saying about themselves when they have an accident that they "pulled a Steve." Steve
Heh. My (ex) father-in-law is like that. He's an absolute jack of all trades; he stick-built his 1500 sq. ft. split-level into 3000 sq. ft. with a 2-car garage (literally by himself), and numerous other houses, while making his primary living as a sophisticated audio technician. It's unlikely there's a tool, anywhere, he's not proficient with. The man couldn't pick a Cent up off the road without finding a way to bleed.
I have empathy. I held two positions on my high school football team. End and guard. End of the bench guarding the water bucket.
Good evening gentlemen, I hate the USB microscope that was finally delivered today and will be mailing it back, but did manage(after an hour) to grab two semi-decent photos. Hope the photos don't suck too much for you. Good night, Diane
Unfortunately, a lot of the USB scopes are nothing but junk. "Cheap" doesn't always serve the purpose. I think you should check out the scope that Alan @coinzip uses. He is one of the best. Chris
Good morning Chris, Thank you. Ill send him a note. I was soooooo annoyed last night. I said a few bad words out loud again. Diane
Wow Di, that is a beautiful coin!!....And Oh...The Wifey said you used to yell at her all the time " To Be Careful!" so you should have known better
But if no one heard you, did you really say them ? You know, the old tree in the forest deal ?? edit - I cuss like a sailor Diane but nobody ever hears me - so it doesn't count. That's my story and I'm stickin to it
In my defense of having a 'potty mouth'..... I can't help it. Really, like maybe it's genetics or something. Ask any of my family members-I either say 'golly gee' or my favorite four letter word. I have no idea why. I like the idea that if no one hears me it doesn't count. My dog/Buster won't tell and my husband was downstairs so he didn't hear me.(trust me, he hears me all the time anyway). No work today due to the snow storm. Will play with Dad's coins today after my coffee.
I've been at work and dropped something and yelled out "dermo" for lesser or "blyad" for greater incidents and all are clueless, well I avoid saying that around Poles since they might understand.
BTW looking at the new image and comparing here: http://www.vamworld.com/1896-O+VAM-4 I'd like to see a sharper image for the die markers, but sure looking VAM-4 so far.
Morgan collectors like to separate themselves, to a degree, from other collectors. If a Morgan is an error coin, it's called a VAM (the combination of the names of the two persons who catalog Morgan errors), while every other coin, that has an error, is called an error coin. I'm preparing a presentation for my Coin Club on error coins and I've been researching different errors, and it's really interesting how the different errors are caused. I also learned not to use double die and machine doubling interchangeably. By the way, the mint has decided to use only one type of band on American Silver Eagle Monster Boxes, so the TPGS and others will not be able to tell where the bullion version was struck. The mint has admitted that they were struck in Philadelphia, San Francisco, and West Point the last two years, but there is nothing to distinguish which mint the bullion ASE came from. I think the mint is cutting off the extra sales they were getting from those people who wanted to buy the ones struck in the other mints. West Point robotically puts the ASEs into the tubes, while the other two mints still put them into the tubes by hand. This may explain why the percentage of 70s has gone down the last wo years.
Good afternoon. As soon as I get a better device I will post more photos. I am grateful for the information. It's incredibly interesting. To be honest though, I am getting overwhelmed. It seems like every time I do more research it just points out how ignorant I really am at this. My father had many bags of coins and they are all different types. Most of these bags are not organized at all(example-a bag of 120 wheat pennies, really???). Inheriting all this stuff is a little mind boggling to me. I had never done any coin collecting prior to a few months ago. Due to your help(and obviously everyone on this site) I started looking closer at the silver dollars. I figured it was time to start somewhere. I went to VAMworld.com today and am educating myself. I also ordered the Van Allen/Mallis book. I know I'll get over it, but right now it feels like a ridiculously huge task to figure all these out. Silver dollars alone I have 46(45 plus the one my husband just gave me as a birthday gift last week as he was trying to be supportive/sweet). Plus, knowing that once I finish with these silver dollars(whatever year that may be) ---- it'll be time to start another bag of coins. Ehhh, maybe it's just all the snow today. Maybe I just need a glass of wine. Thanks for listening. Diane
