I paid just around $10 for this big juicy Vicky cent. The poor lass does suffer from some scuffing on her face, but otherwise I quite like it.

2007 1-20 proof Libertad.jpg View attachment 583248 One can never argue with FREE ! I just ran across this little coin in my collection. If was sent to me as a token of appreciation as a dealer on E bay had listed another coin with a huge listing error.
I PM him and told him of the error, he sent this to me as a thank you for being honest .
a very low minted coin of only 3500 pcs.

I paid exactly $50.00 for this Nero Hemidrachm in a Colorado coin shop (I posted this on the ancients forum last summer).

One can find quite a few amazing things for $50.00 and under, which this thread is definitely showing.

1931-D Lincoln Cent (PCGS MS62BN). Bought this raw off ebay for $45. PCGS graded it MS62BN first time through. I think it deserved a 64 grade, so I might submit for Reconsideration someday. It came out of a Wayte Raymond album, which are known to produce fantastic toning under some conditions.

1934-D Lincoln Cent (PCGS MS65BN). Another raw ebay beauty. Nabbed this for $48. PCGS graded it MS65BN, first time through.

1936-S Lincoln Cent (PCGS MS65BN). Stumbled onto this already PCGS-slabbed monster on eBay for $25 BIN. It had a terrible ebay ad photo which showed no color. I was shocked when I saw it in hand.

I am not sure what grading system they used, but there is no way that is a 62 in my systems.

It looks like there's something going on with the rim at 12-1 on the obverse and 5-6 on the reverse -- in the reverse shot, it almost looks like it's ever so slightly dented. Perhaps a case of silent net-grading?

Good catch on the rim stuff on the 1931-D. I didn't notice that before. Maybe I will leave well enough alone at MS62. So technically you think this should have Genuined due to damage?

Beats me. I've submitted a total of just over a dozen coins, all but one to ANACS, and I've got a very poor track record of guessing what they'll say. That record includes overlooking some really obvious problems. :( So I'm not your guy for informed opinions.

(I did accurately guess that PCGS would give the one coin I submitted there a details grade -- but that was because it was holed and engraved.)

JeffB, I hear you -- I am pretty clueless myself on what PCGS is thinking. I wish they would give a 1 line note with each grade.

So I zoomed up on the rim areas as I was curious ... Hard to tell, but I do think I see a bit of deformation -- maybe it has to get to a certain level or degree to get a Genuine. I have to admit that TPG grading is a bit of a black box to me. I am usually a bit surprised one way or the other when I see my grades assigned.

I'll wait for others to chime in, but I'll bet a grader was just unwilling to let a coin that beautiful go Details.

I doubt that significantly affected the grade, but there is a reason I don't work for PCGS. FWIW, I believe that is not postmint.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, but I was out of town.

For the most part, circulated 1965 - 1970 Kennedys are worth a little bit back of melt. As you go higher up into the UNC status they become worth more, with the big POP in price going from MS65 to MS66, and then a MUCH larger Pop in price going from MS66 to MS67. Finding nicely toned Kennedys from this time frame can be difficult, so it's always nice to pick one off for a good price.

I was just in the right place at the right time for the 1968-D, as I was sitting at the dealer's table at a show when he bought a Kennedy album. I noticed the '68-D had nice toning and asked the dealer how much he wanted for it, so it was a VERY quick flip for him.

Thank you for the response. I just didn't realize these were of an value even at ms levels. I have plenty of 68-ds via roll searching over the years. I would have thought 65s were of more consequence being as I only have about 20% of those relative to the rest of the years collected. In fact, 68ds are a bit of a nuisance in that they are very numerous comparatively. Who knew? I realize the emphasis being on the toned aspect but still.

Found it for $32 on eBay. Trying to decide whether or not to send any of these in for grading. Maybe the Franklin, maybe the Wheatie.

I believe that I paid around $40 for this old style ANACS photo grade 1913 T1 Buffalo.

What a great piece of numismatic history! You bought the coin not the errmmm holder, right? :p

I like it how they mention luster, strike and surface preservation and provide a split grade for obv/rev. I need to get one too!

I have plenty of rainbow toners in my collection of US modern coins, but there's a ruby red coin missing... well, there was!
