Tetradrachm Identificaton

    A friend sent me this picture of an "AOE" tetradrachm. I've read that these were issued from roughly 600 to 100 BC.

    I wonder: what specific time period during the larger 500-year span would this be from? Also, if it's genuine, what would it be worth?

    Barry Murphy is a well-respected expert in the field of ancient coins.

    I'm 1/10th the expert he is, but I would concur with his opinion.

    Athena owl coins are very common and also one of the most forged coins. The one shown in the OC post is a poor quality forgery. It should look more like this:

    check for a casting seem on your coin, that would definitely identify it as a forgery.
