I picked this out of the jewelry case at my local Habitat Re-Store for $1.00. I cannot find it listed anywhere. Is this a private token or official coinage? Thanks for any help. Found none on the bay either and my searches have yield nothing so far. It needs a soak in acetone if it's copper but I don't know if it is copper. Thanks all. Tom
Tommy, I have no idea but I like it. It's a great piece and for a buck, you can't go wrong. I wonder if it still exists. I just googled "morins hotel in lima, peru" and you'll find it.
All I know is what BANOS TIBIOS means - WARM BATHS But the N shoud be a Ñ to be pronounced correctly.. so BAÑOS Obverse: The legend reads: MORIN'S HOTEL/LIMA. Reverse: The legend reads: BANOS TIBIOS/1/1859.
Very interesting. Made by Scovill Manufacturing Co. in Waterbury, Ct, only about 50 miles from me. Used to be the brass manufacturing capitol of the U.S., basically now a dead manufacturing area. I believe Stanley Tools was also headquartered there at one time. Thank you for the link and history lesson!
