I was going through a box of assorted stuff, some junk and some not even close. I found a few modern coins that I pulled from change during the last 3 years but I also found these. Total forgot about them and no idea where or when I bought them. I’ve had them at least 3 years so that will have to suffice. First is this coin/token. It came with the joke to wear as a medallion but it’s the setting and coin that drew me to it. Alongbthe rim it reads “KEEP ME AND NEVER GO BROKE”. A cloverleaf is under the coin, which is now 95 years old. It’s dated 1930, a depression coin. The reverse reads “MEMBER OF THE LUCKY COIN CLUB@. It’s in nice shape for its age and wear it around your neck.
But under that coin/token was this coin. A 1840 Silver Dollar. In a 2 x 2 flip as found. A 185 year old coin in dirty but decent shape. There’s something to be said for not cleaning coins. As if the coin/token above didn’t put a smile on my face, this sure did the trick!
Then under the 1840 was this coin. A 1877 Silver Dollar. Not as old and a little more dirty but in great shape. The thing by that looks like a scratch on her right arm is on the flip, not the coin. Then I looked at the reverse. And what did I find? A beautiful CC mint mark. Now I’m grinning like a little schoolboy at Christmas but Christmas is another 101 days away. LOL
Man, I've got to start buying more stuff and piling it away so I'll be surprised later! No, wait, that's already happening, and I'm running out of places to pile it...
I may have missed it were it not for the fact that lately I've been on the hunt for a no-motto one. Also over 20 years ago I talked to an elderly dealer at a coin show who had one that he had bought years earlier in New York at a flea market. Same year. Could have been from the same counterfeiter of the original posts photo.
I have doubts about the trade dollar as well. The folds in her gown don't match real examples and it appears to have a Type 1 reverse.
