Reveal time! Again, lots of correct guesses, maybe in part to knowing it was a rattler. Got a (seemingly fake) PQ sticker because it's just bland and not gold. Still a very nice coin for the grade (I think) and happy to add it to my collection! Thanks for playing my guessing game again. "Until next time, take care of yourself, and others."
Curious...what are the premiums for these Quarter Eagles in grades just before condition rarity ? I'm wondering what has happened to the price/premium in the last 5 years since the gold price has doubled.
I would imagine the premium to gold have decreased. They certainly have for gold $20s and raw pre-1933 common date gold. I think the quarter eagle in this post will still have a modest rattler premium but it could be less (percentage wise) than when gold was at lower levels.
The reason I asked is a few friends and a guy ATS mentioned they had bought some Half-Eagles pre-Covid. Gold was around $1,700 or so. They got $425 worth of gold coin but paid about $800 or so for graded, certified coins (I believe they weren't raw). Not sure of year or condition -- will try and find out. Anyway....gold has doubled since then but the price of coins like were purchases is FLAT.
