The Swedish King was shot off his horse by a Imperial Hussar, during Battle of Lutzen on 16th of November 1632. The Swedes ended up narrowly defeating Imperial General Wallenstein's forces, but lost their King. fell-adolphus.jpg 33725016d381a9dbe9bd1fa11ee4a3bd.jpg

Ready for 1631, the year that I graduated from high school?

I'll help fill in the gaps as we move along, but I too are missing many years. Eventually we will hit years where there is no dated coinage. How should we approach this situation?

Netherlands, United Provinces, Gelderland, lion daalder, 1631. Rare date.
    Davenport 4849
    26.40 grams
    D-Camera Gelderland lion daalder 1631 Dav 4849 26.40g rare date 3-21-22.jpg

Here's an interesting contemporary imitation, loosely based on an Utrecht lion daalder, dated 1631. Its origins could be either Ottoman or Indonesian (Java). I'm still not sure what the shield in front of the knight is referring to.

Imitating a Netherlands lion daalder based on one from Utrecht 1631.

This is one of the years I am missing. The last time we ran out of dated coins we just started over :wideyed:

@robinjojo It shouldn't be any trouble getting to
1500 AD. We are fortunate to have @panzerman collection choose from. His is one of largest collections of gold coins on this or any other forum. From there going backwards I can take this thread back to 1465 AD.

Some coins can also be dated based on regnal year (Byzantine) or counsel year (Roman). Some Greek coins also have dates, such as Seleucid Era, which can be equated to the Gregorian Calendar as a range, such as 175/4 BC. Roman provincial coins, especially from Alexandria, Egypt, have regnal year, when visible, which is not always the case. This is all rather spotty though going that far back.
