Thanks. This one's an XF45 The other two are AU53 and VF30. Not the highest, I know, but these coins were put into general circulation and there's only one at MS64. That one would cost a small fortune to acquire....or even a large one
New arrival today. This is the 4th edition of the Silver Proof Britannia. I have all except the 2014 which I'll get one of these days. When I can spare the change. I forgot to order and now they are going for $1,000 plus. The mintage on the 2013 and 2014 was 2,500. The 2015 is 3,000 and the 2016 is 4,150. It seems when these type of coins get popular because of their low mintage they go and up the ante. Anyway, here it is
This is not an "official" mint set. Sierra Leone has only issued a mint set for 1966 for a 3 coin gold set. They did produce 3 different 6 coin Proof sets for 1964. One is a basic set which I am on the look out for. The others were a Silver Proof set without a Gold coin and the other has a Gold coin. The mintage for these 2 sets are 12 and 10. I don't plan to mortgage the house to get one. Sierra Leone 1964 Mint Set (Unofficial)
Here are my new ones from this week. The South Korea 5,000 won silver proof is my first silver coin from Korea, as is the 5 Ruble silver proof too. The 5,000 won and the Bulgaria 1 Lev are both for Seoul olympics.
Today I visited a coin shop that I'd never been to before. I knew I had to buy this uncirculated, very nicely (mildly) toned coin when I saw it for $7, especially since I knew the face value was already around $5 USD: Lo and behold, the guy was very nice and I ended up walking out with it for $5+tax. I looked it up, and the melt value is slightly over $7, while the book value of the coin is somewhere around $15. I'm certainly very happy with this purchase! Something interesting I noticed is that in 1968, Swiss coinage started to be minted in base metal, however, in 1969, they minted the 5 franc coin in silver once again for the last time! I wonder why [emoji848]
This will likely be my last coin purchase for a while, though I think it's worth it. Before I fell out of coin collecting a few years ago, a Caballito Peso was high on the list of coins that I wanted; I love the image of Liberty riding the horse. I bid on an AU one once, but it was too low. I just sold some other coins and stuff that I didn't want or need anymore so I could allow myself to buy this beautiful MS-62 example that popped up a few days ago:
This 1840 Real was a $5 purchase today. Unexpected find while joining a friend for a military memorabilia show and couldn't help myself. Sorry about the blurry image.
An under $20 raw coin purchase from eBay that I'm happy with. This is one of my favorite coins...the double 'hoo' bird (phoenix) and the last silver coin produced for circulation in Japan (last in 1938, this is Showa 6, 1931).
VERY pleased with this morning's work!!! Managed to steal this one for just under $610. PPCGS PR63 CAM 1935 Proof Crown (Raised Edge Lettering) with a mintage of 2,500 pieces. A very hard to find coin in any decent grade at a good price. Certified coins in the same grade are selling for a minimum of $1,000-1,750 depending on where one looks for them. I don't think I did too badly
