I know it's only February and we still have 10 months left for the year, but recently I acquired a VERY rare tetradrachm of Lucilla. I will share that I got for $101 shipped, which is a steal considering most of her tets. go for hundreds, sometimes more. Whats even more special it's an R5 in Emmett I couldn't find any other examples. Dattari 3816, the spec. cited by Emmett, may well be from the same die as mine, judging from the pencil rubbing in Dattari-Savio, pl. 205. This coin is probably gonna be my COTY for 2017 Lucilla (164 - 182 A.D.) Billion Tetradrachm EGYPT, Alexandria O: ΛOVKIΛΛA C–ЄB ANT CЄ ΘV, draped bust right. R: Elpis stdg. l. holding flowers & lifting skirt. LS=6th yr. Alexandria Mint 24mm 11.33g Dattari 3816, Emmett 2473, R5
It's always cool to have a highly scarce coin that is genuinely rare....and well centered too! Congrats!!
Nice, congrats Mat (coincidentally, I had a similar experience today!!) => wow fellas, this is gonna be our year!! (2017 rocks!!)
@Mat great find! Nice centering, e Meaty coin at 11g! Nice... Nice Rare one... Kinda how I like my steak... RARE. I have a couple Lucillas, but they are pretty common denarii: RI Lucilla 164-182 CE AR Denarius 18mm 2.8g Rome mint 166-169 CE Pudicitia RIC III 780 RI Lucilla AR denarius Juno seated flower child in swaddling clothes Seaby 36
This is very cool. Was the seller unaware of the rarity? That seems like a really good deal to begin with, even more so if the seller was aware of the rarity and sold it at that price anyway. Solid coin. Nice work.
