Just in... AR Denarius ND circa 211AD Rome Mint 3.45g./20mm. obv. Geta as Augustus rev. Liberalitas standing left/ holding abacus and cornucopiae
Very nice Denarius @panzerman ! Looks like Liberalitas is counting your coins... RI Geta AR Denarius 209-211 CE On horse spearing enemy
Nice, I have one of the same type. Geta (209 - 211 A.D.) AR Denarius O: P SEPT GETA PIVS AVG BRIT ,laureate head right . R: LIBERALITAS AVG V , LIberalitas standing left with counting board and cornucopiae. Rome Mint, 211 A.D. 3.7g 18mm RIC 88, RSC 68 The reverse ends legend with "AUG V". The 'V' stands for the number of times donatives had been given at the time of the minting. "Liberalitas" signifies generosity
Great coin. I think of the child portraits of Geta on coins. You can see the family resemblance in this coin. I think he looks more like Septimius Severus and less like Caracalla on this coin than the adult portraits of him I remember.
Congrats @panzerman !!! That's a gorgeous example!! I note he was murdered on the 26 of December 211 (aged 22) ....and your coin was struck circa 211.
That is a very attractive denarius of Geta, panzerman! Seems to still have some luster present. This is my only denarius of Geta - Janus standing on reverse. Love the reverse on this one with the double-faced deity. Difficult to say which way is Janus facing.
Apparently a popular type among CoinTalkers! (I need to take another photo, this is from my "iPhone in the sun" phase.)
Thanks for all the great reviews! Also for great posts/photos of your Geta examples I am really glad I started into the Roman Silver coinage, some of these coins look like they were struck this morning, great lustre, beautifull to look at!
Atta-boy, panzerdawg ... another OP-stunner!! Geta, eh? Hmmm, I don't seem to have any old-Geta examples ... actually, I only have one example of this ruler (wanna see it ... again .. and again) => Baby-Geta!! ... amazingly sweet reverse though, eh? (very cool)
that's a pretty coin PM...what a great portrait! last year i picked up my first geta, i wanted a "kid" version...
