Let's see. A couple of tetradrachms.

    One from Antioch, Otacilia Severa:

If memory serves me right, I purchased my first ancient coin about a year ago (the NGC certified one in that thread), but the bug really started to bite towards the end of last year. I own only a couple of coins at this stage - five to be exact - with one in transit, but plan to expand my collection. I wish to do it slowly though. I need to learn more about the coins first.

The opportunity to write a couple of articles relating to ancient coins surfaced and I couldn't turn it down, despite my lack of knowledge when it comes to ancient coins.

My initial focus was only on coins of Constantine the Great and his sons, but as I progress with the articles - at crawling speed - my interest in other coins gets peaked more and more, including the Roman Eagles.

So given my lack of knowledge, which I humbly admit, I've decided to learn more about ancient coins from the best - the good folks here at CT such as yourself. ;)

P.S. My library of books relating to ancient coins only include the Handbook of Ancient Greek & Roman Coins by Zander H. Klawans and Money of the Bible by Kenneth Bressett at this stage. I am hoping to expand it, but it is not easy - given the distance and cost involved. Needless to say though, I am keen to learn. :)

@Ajax -- My coins from Agora wer slow in coming, so I called Alfredo there last week and he said that there was some sort of problem with the company that hosts their payment system communicating with them and they simply hadn't gotten the word that I had paid. I told him which lot #s I had won and he said he'd look into it. He did, and called me back and said that I had, indeed, paid for the items and that he'd send them UPS right away. Later that day, I got a shipping confirmation from UPS and the package came just a couple days later. So call Alfredo and tell him you paid and to ship your coins.

I was hoping with the lot I won last week they would maybe see they forgot to ship the Vespasian but a week now and no shipping on that either apparently that's not the case. I can understand if they're having trouble on their end but to not answer multiple emails is a bit annoying. Oh well hopefully I can get this resolved today. Thanks @Roman Collector.

There are three books I recommend you purchase ASAP, all by the same author. The first is one that all ancient coin collectors should read, because it's an overview of the hobby as a whole--Ancient Coin Collecting (v. I) by Wayne Sayles.

And for you, since you seem to be interested in Roman coins, I recommend a couple of other volumes in Sayles' series--Ancient Coin Collecting III: The Roman World Politics and Propaganda and Ancient Coin Collecting IV: Roman Provincial Coins.

    Happy collecting!

@Ajax -- Apparently, the company that does the billing/payment system notifies them by e-mail. They don't answer e-mail (or mine). I suspect Agora has a problem with their OWN E-MAIL server/system. Let Alfredo know that we think something is wrong with his e-mail provider. He might not know the source of the problem. Just a thought.
