Why are kids so secretive sometimes? We installed new carpet and had to empty out everything downstairs including the kids' bedrooms. Putting things back, I ran into this album that she must have started more than 5 years ago since she's been away at college and now on her own for that long. I could have helped, we could have bonded over it, etc, but no, it was all in secret. Maybe she wanted to surprise me with it? It's amazing how far she got though. I never got that far with any of my albums as a kid.
That's awesome. I started my Lincoln cent and Merc dime books in the early 1970's. I didn't plug those final holes until well into the 2000's.
She did great! Maybe it was meant to be a surprise for your birthday or Christmas once she got it completed.
She worked food trucks during the summer for a couple years so she had access to a lot of quarters. I hid it back in the pile of her books in case it was meant to be a surprise, but I wonder if she's forgotten about it and maybe I should add to to surprise by finishing it for her.
Yes!! Finish it for her and put one of those heartfelt dad notes in the book. Put it back and forget about it. One day down the road. Maybe a month, maybe five years you will get that special call from her that dads never forget….. Yes, do it!
You've gotta leave it somewhere that she can "find" it. Who knows, she may have misplaced it and thought it was lost.
These are both insightful thoughts, but she will never live at home again, so the option is to put it out somewhere obvious for her to see at Christmas or whatever, but then if it was supposed to be a surprise for me, then she'll know the jig is up. This is what I'm leaning towards, but as I said at first, I've never finished an album in my life, so I don't know if I could start a new trend or not. On the other hand, I did finally collect all 21 Barber dime hub transition varieties, so maybe I've changed. Or I could post a list of the missing coins and members here could mail them to me. Hahahahaha.
Gosh, I just looked at the pics again and she did an amazing job. The holes are almost entirely P mint and we almost never see those out west.
@KBBPLL . I guess my answer would be different. My daughter Allison is a big history buff and I originally had the thought to put a few coins from Elizabeth the I togrther for her. Then I changed my mind. I told her instead that there were coins from that time period and I would be happy to help her find a few together. She only has 3 but I think that way turned out better. I would suggest to your daughter that you came across that partial set and ask if she would like to help add to it agasin. James
I like what you did in that situation. My daughter has an allergic reaction to "dad" getting involved in her business though, so it's a fine line. Maybe next time she visits I'll pull out the album and compliment her on what a great job she did finding almost everything except the Ps. See where that leads. After mulling it over, I think filling in holes without her permission would be a bad idea. It's her collection, not mine.
