Is it just me, or does this look like one of those novelty, mini Saints that are smaller than a dime and contain barely any gold? If so, someone is getting ripped off like crazy (the bid is over $500 at this point).
What kind of a moron(?): Winning bid: US $511.09 however, the seller says: UP FOR BIDS!!! WE HAVE A RARE LIBERTY $20.00 24K GOLD COIN! LADY LIBERTY IN FRONT AMERICAN EAGLE REAR! MINTED 1908! That word: Minted is the misleading part. No where does he say replica! And this one is really rare: it is both Uncirculated & proof! can you spell: c-r-o-o-k!
how about his partial Lincoln set: http://cgi.ebay.com/LINCOLN-PENNIES...ryZ11944QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem THE COINS MISSING TO COMPLETE SET ARE: 1909-SVDB 1909-S 1914-D 1920-S 1931-S and it sold for: Winning bid: US $150.00 !!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't feel bad for the buyers. All they had to do was look at the pics and see the word "COPY" plainly stamped into the sun on the reverse. Not to mention, if it was the size of a real $20 St., that would make that holder easily the largest I'd ever seen...you could park a Buick in there! Guy~
of course the seller doesn't use a picture of the entire holder, there's no frame of reference for size. The buyer can claim fraud and probably get away with it.
That gold piece was being held in one of them new 22X22 Flips. Makes them look small I guess. Some folks just cant see the forest through the trees can they.
Just to clarify (as there is no sarcasm font on this board), anyone who bid more than a couple bucks on this coin is almost an idiot or a really young novice with too much money in their hands.
You're right, gatzdon, but the fact that there's enough room in the window for at least four of those coins and the real coin is 34 mm in diameter...if that coin were real, that would mean the holder could quite literally hold a standard sized hubcap. thats a monster holder! Guy~
Cody: Under the item description, I'll try to copy it here: Item Specifics - US Coins Certification: Uncertified Method of Manufacture: Proof Mint: Condition: Uncirculated Material: Gold
At least the sucker is actually getting a coin with this one, I have heard of them bidding over a $1000 for an empty box before.
That description looks okay, I do think a proof coin CAN be either circulated or uncirulated. Remember, Proof is the method of manufacture, not the condition.
I can vouch for the fact that a Proof coin can most definitely be circulated: http://www.cointalk.org/showthread.php?t=27586
as you stated " Remember, Proof is the method of manufacture, not the condition." Therefore, a proof can NEVER be uncirculated. It can be many grades of proof from Pr-1 to Pr-70, but never MS (Mint State).
I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. I'll be the new Aidan and talk about my uncirculated proof "medal coins".
