This guy got sent off to NGC today. I'm guessing AU 53. It's in the two day service so figured I would do a guess the grade. I've said it a few times before, sorry for the mediocre photos.
Whopper of a coin! Unfortunately, I suspect that it will come back UNC Details for what appear to be hairlines, predominantly in one direction. For your sake, I hope I'm wrong.
I was wondering if anybody would notice the mint mark. On this one I don't know. It isn't my series, hopefully by Monday or Tuesday we will all know. Perhaps I am hoping AU so I will have a reason for the marks on the coin. On this coin though I think the price difference between AU 50 and UNC details is almost the same........ almost.
Au details cleaned, it's really noticeable behind the eagles head. That said who knows whether it will get a 'pass'.
If that mintmark is not a slightly smashed "D" you have a heck of a "Winner" there But I still think it will get AU Details.
AU details and I will still be happy. Though I am hoping I'll get that "better date" bump I've heard about.
You'll get that in the form of relatively little value lost for the cleaning (if it gets Details, which I'm not sure of). These are too darn scarce to take much of a hit for Details. I agree with you on the grade; maybe two points low.
I usually don't hide certification numbers but this is by far my most expensive coin now and not sure what I'm going to do with it yet. But this just came in.
Good for you . . . I think they were a little generous with you. That helps shoot holes in the arguments some make about grading services only treating their high-falootin' pals favorably.
You definitely got a wink & nod rarity loosening of the grading standards. Congrats on a great coin and great outcome.
