Hello need some help this looks like impression of his head on the back even some in between columns. Is it a fake? Is it real and if so is it worth anything. Coin is in good shape as you can see from picture. Any ideas would be helpful.

The mark on the left appears to be raised while the mark on the right does not. I'd like to know what others think of this anomaly.

Appears to me to be a die crack and possibly associated with a die clash in the 3rd & 9th bays as lines up pretty well at the bottom to the bays.

    Looks like a shattered die

Even though the anomaly above N in CENT appears to be raised, the coin certainly displays clashing, and this would seem to perfectly match its position and shape. An overlay would tell you for sure, but I don't think it necessary. A shattered die though? No. It's pretty neat IMO.

It's my understanding that the area within the outline of the clash is raised on the die and recessed on the coin. The entire area of Lincoln's head should be recessed on the coin. How can there be a raised line representing the back of the head and a recessed line representing the forehead?

I don't think anything is raised on the OP coin, all areas look recessed to me ..

The mark from the "N" in CENT to the base of the Memorial sure looks raised to me.

That's just lighting, catching the valley ....

Rick, if you look at the image that Tommy posted, the light source is on the left edge of the coin at 9 o'clock. The mark on the right is reflecting light on its left side. That isn't a valley! It's like a mountainside. At the same time, the mark on the left is dark as if the valley is shaded from the light.

The light will be traveling from the west to eastside, catching the side of the earth quake ( recessed ) area ...

But I could be wrong, OP, post a image with the light coming from east ..

The OP's image does have the light source from the east. I only used Tommy's photo because it has the Memorial upright.

I don't know if this will help, but it is a photo I took at the Colorado National Monument. The sun is positioned at the upper right of the photo. You can see that the canyon wall in the background is shaded while the canyon wall in the foreground is sunlit.

Hardly! The light source above the Lincoln cent is probably similar to 10-11 in the morning. That's about what my photo of the Colorado National Monument was.
