Looking for a little feedback on the 1811, O-109 (R2) CBH,. From the pictures I'll go VF-20/F-15 or visa versa, LOL... what do you thinK? The price was right and I had a little change to blow. This makes 115 halves and 108 different varieties.

    Thanks for Looking
    Ben

    Ben:
Hard to grade, I believe that the reverse die break may have to be taken into account.
But, considering that I'd say that your grades may be on the money.
Factoring in the die break, and possible strike weakness, possibly VF/VF

I've read that the 109 is softly struck on hte reverse for obvious reasons, but I've also read that the CBH series had NO die failures, LOL... I've got an 1835 with an large obvious die cud and it was graded XF-45 by NGC.

    Bone,

Nice Half! I saw one like it or was it this one on eBay awhile back. Is it the just the angle of the picture or my eyes but is it not one of the Varieties that they used two different fonts on the Reverse lettering or hubbed one Die over another? If I am not mistaken, this is similar to the true 1830 "Large Letter" Variety Half Dollar in which "AMERICA" and "50 C" is much larger than "UNITED STATES OF"!

Hmmm, which one are you referring to? the 1811 (an ebay pruchase) or the 1835? The 1811 is an O-109 and the 1835 is an O-108. I'm out at my office and too lazy to run go find my attribution book...

    Ben,

I am sorry for not noting which Half Dollar that I was talking about! I was referring to the 1811.

I would call it a Fine-15 by grading the obverse and accounting for the reverse striking weakness.

I would go vf-20, but I'm still cutting my teeth on the grading of bust halves

Steve, even now they are amazingly cheap. For 50-100£ or less you can get really a nice example. :) With shipping and handling too...

Nice one bone. I'd give it a solid vf-20.
