Just read this on another forum and wanted to share it here. This looks really great! http://www.pcgs.com/research_archive/index.chtml
This one sounds as if it could be a good thing. I just wonder how much they will put out with all the concerns over copyrighted material.
I don't think copyright infringement will be a problem. All they're doing is scanning documents that are public knowledge anyway and making the info available to a wider range of people. I see it like a lending library. I'm sure that they won't be able to be downloaded and that full credit will be given for each document.
It depends. For one thing, they can work with copyright holders when necessary. Of course, with what they have listed here so far, published in 1860, copyright is no longer an issue as it has long since expired. One other interesting thing of note, this being pre-Heaton and before there was much interest in collecting by mintmark, is that none of the entries mention anything about mint marks anywhere.
