Was there only Wed and Thu. Didn’t buy any coins. I rarely buy at shows these days but look at auction lots and sometimes contact a dealer after a show to buy. And there were many auction lots to look at. And some dealers had paper catalogs of auction coins that had not yet gone online. I did have some coins to sell and got my asking price. Most were recent issue gold UK coins. So, price was pretty much determined by metal content, and gold is up … lucked out there. Also submitted some coins to NGC and PCGS. Saw the spectacular ultrahigh relief St Gaudins $20 and the 1804 dollar … guess I’ll put them on my want list. Show seemed to be well attended, especially Thu. There were more European dealers there than I have seen before. That was great for me because my want lists for British and French coins are longer than the US list. Met Burton Strauss and okbustchaser there and had a nice chat … great guys and glad to meet them in person. Will probably go next summer and stay longer. Cal
Was there for a few hours Wednesday. Saw the sights and rarities. Didn't get to do a whole lot of buying or selling but had a good time.
I was there 3 days. Bought a few coins on Wed. Picked up a friend's book award on Thur & went to a Byzantine coin collector group on Friday. I was there long enough to figure out that walking to Bricktown from the show was too much in the afternoon heat. My disappointment was I went by Mickey Mantles Restaurant twice only to find it closed. I talked to several dealers & most were pleasantly surprised by the foot traffic.
I had a fun show. I enjoy the people much more than the coins, though. It is always great to be able to put faces to forum names. Nice to meet with Mike (Cal) and Burton Strauss. Looking forward to the next edition of Burton's book on sample slabs. I didn't buy or sell a single coin, but I sure saw some nice ones.
I had a blast. Ran into many old friends and fixed a problem I had going. It took me two days to walk every table. I learned a lot but did not buy or sell anything. Went to Bob's Steak house in the Omni hotel. Great food and service. A good dealer friend of mine that only sells high end coins, sold half of the coins he brought. I hung out at his table when my feet needed a rest. That was nice and more old friends would stop and chat.
Talked with a semi-local dealer who had sold out 3x and had to send people back to the store (it was only 50mi down the road) to bring more to sell. Even Legend-Laura is eating crow and admitting it was a good show. So she's back whining about transport. She did say there was no traffic near her booth. I suggested she get off the skanky carpet. Because outside the high-rent district, things were booming.
I always go by and say hi to Laura. Actually I just want to see what she has in her show cases. Always some really nice coins. I never ask the prices. Most are more than I can afford.
