Excellent! The early issues really have careful, well-styled portraits, in contrast to many from the massive production that came later. I only have one, but funds permitting, I'd want a DICT QVART as well.
great coin and write-up! I have coins from his time in office, but no portrait coins yet. I do have a few coins with Juno Sospita. I think her shield looks like a nutterbutter:
Boy, @Carthago , I keep looking at your Caesar... well done, fantastic. I hope you find that upgrade, but that looks like a tough battle. Well done.
Great coins everyone! I have no Julius Caesar portrait coins minted when he was alive. My only portraits of Julius Caesar are on sestertii struck by Octavian to honor Divus Julius Caesar (of course Octavian made sure his portrait was on each of these coins too)
How did I miss this thread? Regardless, that is one amazing coin Carthago. Congrats on a tremendous acquisition!
An outstanding coin @Carthago, I'm green with envy I do have four coins issued by Julius Caesar, but one only bears his portrait and it's not a lifetime issue Julius Caesar and Mark Antony, Denarius minted in 43 BC M ANTO IMP RPC, Head of Mark Antony right, lituus behind him CAESAR DIC, Head of Caesar right, jug behind him 3.76 gr Ref : HCRI # 123, RCV #1465, Cohen #3 Q
Great coin, Carthago! I can honestly say I am impressed by that coin. My own example is a caesar portrait of the much more common S.Macer moneyer type.
Incredible posts!! I'm still craving a decent Caesar portrait. My only example is a denarius of Augustus and a posthumous/youthful portrait of JC:
You guys have posted some great looking and historic Caesar coins. I have been wanting a Caesar portrait coin for some time but have put it off due to the cost. I found and purchased this one today. It's not the best looking coin but it's not too bad either. I am very happy to have it on its way to me. JULIUS CAESAR DICTATOR AR silver portrait denarius. Rome, 42 BC. Laureate head of Caesar right, no legend. Reverse - L MVSSIDIVS LONGVS, rudder, cornucopia on globe, caduceus and priest's hat. 18mm, 3.5g. RCV 1426
