Mary Groat Condition Query

    Beautiful coins Dafydd. Strangely enough on first looking at the photo of the 3 coins together, my eyes were drawn to the middle one mainly because of its dark even tone and high levels of visible detail. I have seen many bent coins that detectorists have tried to straighten themselves but ended up with ripples or cracks. It needs to be done by an expert using carefully controlled heat. In the detecting world the expert at this is called Barry Sherlock. He does a fantastic job.

    Very nice coin @PaddyB . Far better than most. Interesting as well to see the different portrait images here.

    Thank you and that's very interesting regarding Barry Sherlock. I've had a couple over the years that benefit from "straightening". Now that is a niche skill!

    Barry Sherlock is a goldsmith from Torquay whose coin restorations are second to none.
