Beautiful chocolate toning. Some people are into die cracks also. I see it on the obverse. Nice details and strike!
I'm suspicious of this coin. Weird color, and other red flags that make me question its authenticity all together. I am absolutely not an expert in this series or even in authenticating, so take that with a grain of salt. But this one doesn't sit right with me, especially the hair above the ear and overall "porous" look. My hesitant answer is that its a fake.
First, I'm no expert on anything. But, I compared it to a photo of an 1870 65 Proof coin. It just looks off to me? It might be real, but...
Looks real to me, Judy toned darker than normal. It’s taken a number of hits near areas that still show a tiny bit of red. The coin is 155 years old ya know.
This looks like a SCARILY good counterfeit. The hair and diamonds are very suspicious, and as far as I know there are no die varieties for 1870. The left part of the ear is straight as well - that should be curved. The reverse letters too - oof. I really thank @derkerlegand for the comparison. It's incredible what a close-up pictures reveals.
Where the ribbon meets the banner is totally different. If there are no varieties, then I don't see how your coin (on the bottom, obviously) can be real.
