Here is my newest mint error coin. It’s modern but it’s a neat one. The tin is narrow at the top but wide at the bottom, around the date. Since this issue and date have a narrow and wide rim how do I price it? lol It looks like a narrow rim but you don’t see errors like this to often as a little more than 360 million were minted and they don’t circulate. It’s on the tougher side to find higher denominations of coins with nice errors.
Not sure how you would price it, but I'd check sold comps on Ebay for off-center SBAs. It appears that what you have here is struck 10-15% off-center.
You consider 1979 modern? Looks like a Broadstruck struck out of collar error. It wouldn't be an off center strike. Does it have a Reeded edge?
It’s not an off center coin. My question about pricing is the difference for a wide and narrow rim when this coin has both. Lol
No collar on the coin when this one was struck. No edge reeding. It’s a little thinner and it’s wider than a normal SBA. And yes Paddy, 1979 is modern to me. If you think it’s not modern then you must think I’m ancient. I graduated high school in 1972. LOL
Sorry Paddy. I love your posts. Your dedication and expertise are recognized and much appreciated. But... Here I've got to disagree with you. I haven't really thought about a specific date as a cutoff for, from this date forward is modern, but, I guess in general for me, it goes by design or composition change, mostly. So, Lincoln Memorial Cent in 1959, Nickels, Dimes and Quarters 1960 to 1964ish, Halves 1963. This is just my thoughts, means absolutely nothing, and I'm just giving you a hard time because I'm old and your not, lol. I still highly value your thoughts and opinions and your knowledge.
The only difference between a broad strike and off center if all of the outside lettering is there it's a broad strike if all the outside lettering isn't there it's an off center
