Anyone us Capital Plastics coin display holders?

I'm looking for opinions on Capital Plastics coin display holders.

I currently have a US Coin Type Set in the old Brown Dansco album. I'm planning on starting a US classic pre 1933 Gold Type Set as well.

Instead of having these "uncertified" coins hidden and locked away in my Lighthouse Quadrum snap-tite binders I'm thinking of putting these in the CP display holders.

How sturdy is the construction, opening them and air tightness? Do coins readily tarnish and tone? I've had mixed results with toning in my Dansco albums in our humid environment but I've dramatically updated storage location and regularly run the house AC.

Ages ago I thought Capital Plastics went out of business and I didn't see much of their products around but recently they are available on multiple distributors, coin shops and even *m*zon and the *bay auction sites.

I have some gold that has been in Capitol holders for twenty years or better and I haven't noted any toning. Capitol holders are probably the sturdiest around but they aren't air tight. Usually two or three pieces of acrylic that are held together with fasteners once you place your coin....... I would only caution you about displaying high value coins. I had a family member once in dire straights that I would have never dreamed would steal from me but he did. I hate it. I love displaying my coins.

 

I love Capitol holders but most of the stuff I want to display is in holders. As @Randy Abercrombie said, they are not airtight, but they are attractive and durable.

 

I have a few coins in those holders and I’ve never had a problem with them.

 

That is the sad part of collecting. I don't have any coin buddies to share with. I've only got you guys, and I suck at taking pictures.

 

You make a good point. This display idea did not go over well with my wife. She HATES when I leave my gold binders out after working on them (vs locking them back away in the safe), she covers up my coin desk and work table with a sheet whenever repair or contractors are in the house, is paranoid of anyone knowing I collect/invest in coins to the point of hating the postman delivering numismatic-labelled magazines and sales catalogs to the house. I'm also non trusting of my new son-in-law who outwardly describes as his family living and coming from the "slums" of a nearby municipality. We told our daughter to NEVER discuss my collecting/investing, especially the gold, with the family...ANYONE. One thing is for sure...IF I Capital mount my sets they'll be locked away in two shakes of a lambs tail...which then raises "what's the point then for this exercise" then.

 

The ads in here are getting weird. There's a photo of a woman in a bikini in your post..........not under your post between posts. I wonder if admin is aware of how advertising is happening here.

 

Yeah…. Sometimes breaks my heart that after half a century of collecting that I am finally in a place where I can enjoy some of the coins I dreamed about my whole life…. Except they are all at the bank in the safe deposit box.

 

It sucks. I've got two boxes. I'd say more but there are too many thieves and Aholes to expound on this. And anyone can read the forum.

 

I've got a couple of Capital holders. This one I've had since I was a teen in the '70's. I just noticed it's missing the 'V' nickel.

 

I have 2 CP holders...a '63 proof set and a Mexican Gold type set. The '63 set hasn't been opened since it was first bolted together in the late '60s (coins aren't fairing so well). The Mexican gold was last opened/closed about 15 years ago and I found it a pain in the ass to get the coins to fit/orient correctly. One hole was ever so slightly too small, others the opposite.

 

I really like capital plastics holders. I had a Merc dime set in a red one, all high quality MS. Traded it at a show but they’re nice.

I have a couple.
They seem well built.

 

After loosing most of my collection at a young age, I became very careful. I don't display anything. I like every coin to have it's own holder. The Capital holders take up too much space.

 

Working on a 1/10 Oz. AGE date set. About half way through. Wish I had bought more earlier

 

I saw two dealers with the "Pre 33 European Gold" holder at the OKC WFoM today. I don't think they make it anymore, it was the size of a full sheet of paper and very impressive filled with gold coins. Sorry no pics.

 

I use them for all of my pre-1950 silver proof sets.
