I found this beauty online as was considering buy it. The current bid is at $17 dollars. I immediately noticed that this coin is in pretty good shape. The from has some wear and scratches, but the back seems nice. I looked up values and I got a bunch of different numbers. What would you pay for this coin and what grade do you think it is?
If you are looking for estimates on every item you are interested in bidding on, you should probably look into a personal buyer. Besides being uncouth you are attracting other potential buyers to an item you may be interested in. That said, Details harshly cleaned. Look at the way lines going NE-SW on the obverse as well as something more severe near the date.
I know I post a lot, I swear I don't post everyone I bid on! I wouldn't say I'm uncouth though. Just been seeing some good coins recently
You have definitely been saving quite a bit of monies by asking first . I just think it's a Catch-22 because, if you do find a spectacular coin that is way under priced, you are attracting more potential buyers. If I were you I would spend a couple days going back over the coins you've been asking about and getting a better understanding of how folks are deciphering they are problem coins from crappy seller photos.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder ,and from what I've seen from your post you should never equate that word with your specimen here . May I suggest that you do some research on the coins that interest you . May I also suggest that you save your money and buy coins that aren't detailed like this one. Yes this specimen does have nice die crack. There's some meat on the bone here but this coin has issues it has been cleaned! After copying the bad image and cleaning it up.....I will say this...even a blind pig finds a truffle ! This is a variety coin don't get excited yet as even though it is a over date the 1853/4 pup the doubled arrow shaft on the right arrow ,and the 3 in the date. The conditions of this specimen overshadows any premium that would be there. The value of this coin in F/VF $ 30-40 range the variety 150-200. As a variety collector I personally wouldn't touch this even with the variety unless I purchased it for melt.
I would think a blind pig would be better at finding truffles. Often times when a creature loses one sense, the others are heightened to compensate. Personally, I wouldn't even take a moment to look at the coin because of the damage- too many coins to assess, too little time.
I only took a look at this knowing that there's varieties in this series as well as date. I have no intention of wasting my time on other coins as such. I personally don't mind helping out a collector if I can shed some light on a purchase . However This is the last time as if this collector wishes to learn about collecting they must take the time themselves to do the research and educate themselves as to what they are posting . Agreed this is a coin forum not a free service for fail safe purchases.
Thanks for information, got a couple free lectures too... I didn't bid on it, so I don't need any more comment. Will make threads only for coins I actually have in the future!
