Got a strange one here... Seems like this would have to be Post mint damage ...err... alteration... Whatcha think any error gurus out there? http://cgi.ebay.com/Jefferson-w-Lincoln-rev-U-S-Nickel-Strange-Error-Coin_W0QQitemZ330150767854QQihZ014QQcategoryZ524QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Those pictures are not clear enough to determine whether it's a squeeze job or a hammer job, but it sure didn't look like that when it left the mint.
I agree with Mike. As usual. Also: "This item has been inspected and it is our opinion that the item is authentic. Unless a Certificate of Authenticity is presented." I love this quote. So, If it has a certificate of authenticity, then it may be fake?
Yes, I believe them - NOT! Been on ebay since 2002. Suddenly selling (I can live with it so far). Look at the feedback - most of it is coins so gee whiz they must KNOW sometning about coins. Enough, in my opinion, to have an error like this looked at by a professional. Something stinks here and I've already showered.
If you think there's even a 1% chance that it is a genuine mint error, then please explain a sequence of possible events at the mint that could have caused it.
FIBBER !! I seen Clembo with his hand on the Bible when he was posting that. Get him, hontonai !! *snicker*
Ok, what do you people think about this one, real or not?. Sold for $900 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=220134802259&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=012
My guess is it would have went for more if he had better feedback.... but none the less, I expected it to go for more... I really thought there would be more brain dead bidders.
Given that the nickel is missing the obverse detail, it's a vice job. As for the Dollar, As the coin has the detail of four additional coins, I don't believe there is enough space in the stamping machine to accomodated 5 coins. I could be mistaken though.
That dollar just looks awfully fake to the naked eye, even if you don't know about errors. Is it possible that those are just shill bids? $900 seems a little over-the-top, even for eBay.
