Cent of a pig

    This 1839 cent has been counter stamped both sides with an image of a hog. Barely discernible is "PORK" on the hog. I've had it for probably 40 -50 years, probably from a dealer's junk box. Anyone seen this before?

    I've seen a number of these over the years. As a matter of fact this stamp is listed in Brunk's counterstamp catalog. While interesting, it's never been identified as far as I know. It's possibly a butcher's mark but that's pure speculation.

    Only thing I could think of was "The Three Little Pigs".
